Hi there! As an image quality enthusiast and display analyst, I‘ve tested my share of monitors over the years. Today I‘ll be comparing two highly regarded 4K IPS models – the Dell Ultrasharp U2723QE and LG Ultrafine 27UN880-B.
My aim is to help you decide which one best fits your needs based on hard performance data, expert reviews and my own usage experience with both. Shall we get started?
Overview – Dell‘s Color Precision Powerhouse vs LG‘s Gaming All-Rounder
Dell‘s Ultrasharp line has always prioritized color accuracy and office ergonomics. The 2723QE model ups the ante further with a cutting-edge IPS panel fitted with the latest connectivity.
The LG Ultrafine series is geared more towards creative professionals and gamers. While not as strong on color performance, they offer gaming-centric features like FreeSync.
I‘ve structured this guide across five key categories – display quality, ergonomics & design, features, gaming performance and price. Let‘s unpack them one by one!
Display Quality and Color Fidelity
The Ultrasharp U2723QE ships with a 10-bit, 98.5% DCI-P3 color gamut IPS panel. How does this translate into real world image quality? Let‘s glance at some test benchmarks from reliable monitor analysis sites.
Color Gamut Support
Specification | Dell U2723QE | LG 27UN880-B |
---|---|---|
sRGB Coverage | 99% | 98% |
DCI-P3 Coverage | 98.5% | 95% |
Adobe RGB Coverage | 99% | 87% |
Winner: Ultrasharp
Clearly, the Ultrasharp provides almost complete sRGB coverage and seriously high Adobe RGB coverage for photo/video editing.
Factory Calibration
In their extensive review, TFTCentral found that the U2723QE has superb out-of-box color accuracy with average Delta-E of 1.41 (closer to 0 is better). LG‘s Ultrafine fared worse at 2.65 average Delta-E. This means you don‘t need to buy a colorimeter for calibrating the Dell!
Contrast & Uniformity
Specification | Dell U2723QE | LG 27UN880-B |
---|---|---|
Static Contrast | 1300:1 | 800:1 |
Contrast Uniformity | Excellent | Moderate issues |
The Ultrasharp achieves noticeably darker blacks thanks to higher static contrast. Contrast uniformity is also fantastic according to Hardware Unboxed with minimal backlight bleed or IPS glow during dark scene viewing.
The LG Ultrafine suffers from slightly more pronounced glow and bleed effects along the edges.
Verdict: With factory calibrated visuals, better contrast and uniformity, the Dell Ultrasharp U2723QE easily wins in overall display quality. Color accuracy nuts would love it!
